Regensburg-based startup brainjo raises two million euros: ADHD therapy using VR glasses

Networking with cluster member Weinhut GmbH as a key to success

Too few therapy slots, long waiting lists—there are significant gaps, particularly in the care of children with ADHD. The Regensburg-based startup brainjo has made it its mission to close these gaps. With a prescription-eligible therapy supplement based on virtual reality, brainjo develops digital health applications (DiGA) that effectively complement psychotherapy and are eligible for reimbursement by health insurance providers. To further develop this innovative solution, founders Christian Gnerlich and Markus Wensauer have now secured two million euros in a seed funding round—an important milestone for the young company and a testament to the strength of the regional innovation ecosystem.

Another key factor in this success was networking through the Cluster Mobility & Logistics at TechBase Regensburg. Here, the brainjo founders made early contact with relevant partners, investors, and supporters. One of them is Andreas Weinhut, managing director of cluster member Weinhut GmbH in Neutraubling, who will also handle logistics for the startup in the future. The initial contact was made through the cluster network—an example of how cross-industry collaboration enables innovation.

With this fresh capital, brainjo is now funding the regulatory approval of its first VR-based digital health application (DiGA), a digital therapy application for children with ADHD. It is being developed in collaboration with Medice Health Family, a leading global provider of healthcare solutions and the market leader in the ADHD sector in Germany. Market approval is planned for 2028, and the first clinical trial is set to begin this fall.

Since its founding in 2022, brainjo has grown to a team of ten employees—with expertise in technology, psychology, and healthcare. Through the combination of medical innovation, strong strategic partners, and active involvement in the regional cluster, the startup now considers itself “perfectly positioned” to sustainably establish multimodal therapy offerings for patients.

brainjo’s success story impressively demonstrates how the Cluster Mobility & Logistics functions as a platform for exchange, trust, and cooperation—and how this gives rise to innovations that have a societal impact far beyond the region.
