From learning to replicating: Innovative Urban Air Mobility solutions

19.04.2023

online, 13:30 - 15:30 Uhr

During the RECIPROCITY workshop on Wednesday 19 April 2023 from 13:30 to 15:30 (CET), we will get an update from the European Commission on the European Drone Strategy 2.0. and then focus on two innovative mobility use cases and projects from Helsinki (FI) and Coventry (UK).

Participants will also have the chance to discuss the possibility of replicating them in other cities.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE CASES

  • E-VTOL in an urban environment, the Electric Heartlands (Coventry)

Urban Air Port® chose Coventry for the first site due to its important location in the heart of the UK and because it is a historic hub for the automobile and aerospace industry, with a pool of people and skills that can support the manufacturing industries of the future. The city’s unique location also provides easy access within four hours to most parts of the country. In December 2020, Coventry was named the best UK town for electric cars. Air-One® will be unveiled during Coventry’s UK city of culture celebrations in 2021 and continue to form part of the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

Coventry is already a city that is helping to shape the future of electric transport and this is yet another ground breaking project that puts Coventry at the forefront of new technologies. It highlights how the city council is working alongside a range of organisations to help shape a better, greener future.

With research partners at Coventry University, Urban Air Port® aims to further public understanding and acceptance of the new technology – a key factor to its ultimate success. The Air-One® site in Coventry will showcase live demonstrations of remote aircraft command and control, charging/refuelling and cargo and passenger loading for manned and unmanned eVTOL aircraft operating in three key markets: passenger air taxi services, autonomous logistics and disaster emergency management.

  • AiRMOUR and CITYAM projects (Helsinki)

AiRMOUR is a research and innovation project supporting sustainable air mobility in urban contexts via emergency and medical services. The project focuses on researching and validating novel concepts and solutions to make urban air mobility safe, secure, quiet and green but also more accessible, affordable and publicly accepted. Within the AiRMOUR project, personal air vehicles for doctors and medical supplies are validated in real-life demonstrations in Stavanger (Norway), Helsinki (Finland), the region of Nord-Hessen (Germany) and in simulations in Luxembourg.

CITYAM project has started in the beginning of 2023. The project aims to support and empower cities in facilitating a responsible and acceptable increase in urban air mobility in order to achieve a cleaner and more sustainable transportation system. CITYAM will provide the ingredients and tools for a solid urban air mobility strategy, to adapt city planning practices in relation to landing site and airspace management, and also to scale city-relevant drone operations as part of a multimodal transport system. During the project, the solutions will be tested in the three leading cities of Hamburg, Helsinki and Stockholm for different purposes.
