On October 20, 2025, the Ideation Workshop 3.0 “R_Lab Mobility: Real-world Laboratory for Urban Mobility” took place in Regensburg. The Cluster Mobility & Logistics organized the event together with the City of Regensburg to present and further develop current developments and potential urban mobility solutions as part of the “R_Lab Mobility” project.

The main objective of the workshop was to work with representatives from administration, business, and science to develop concrete project ideas that can be implemented on a pilot basis in public spaces in the R_Lab Mobility real-world laboratory starting in 2026. Since 2024, the real-world laboratory at the Galgenberg site has offered the opportunity to test innovative smart city applications under real-world conditions. It is a joint project of the City of Regensburg, the Cluster Mobility & Logistics, Stadtwerk.Regensburg, and other partners from the region.

After a welcome by Philipp Berr (City of Regensburg), Franziska Meier (City of Regensburg), Anne Häner ( Cluster Mobility & Logistics), and Florian Heitzer (Stadtwerk.Regensburg) gave a comprehensive insight into the objectives and activities to date of the R_Lab Mobility and the overarching R_NEXT project in their project presentations.

In interactive workshop formats, specific challenges in the field of urban mobility were then identified and initial solutions collected. The participants – consisting of stakeholders from urban development, the mobility industry, and research – had already had the opportunity to submit ideas in advance. These ideas, along with those already collected in workshops 1.0 and 2.0, were further developed during the workshop and consolidated into project approaches in group work.

The Ideation Workshop 3.0 provided important impetus for actively shaping sustainable mobility solutions in Regensburg. The ideas submitted and developed will be incorporated into the further planning and implementation of the real-world laboratory. The implementation of the first pilot projects is planned for 2026.

These new ideas, along with those already collected in Workshops 1.0 and 2.0, were further developed during the workshop and consolidated into project approaches in group work.
