Workshop on the Regensburg AI Driver's License

AI? No problem! Successful workshop on the Regensburg AI Driver's License

On October 15, a workshop on our new AI educational program took place at the Schreiberhaus—and it was a huge success! About 20 participants of various ages learned how to skillfully use AI in everyday life through a virtual bike tour of Regensburg and hands-on exercises. They also received valuable insights into the risks associated with artificial intelligence and how to navigate them.

High Demand for Digital Topics

Demand was huge, so unfortunately not everyone who was interested could participate. We were all the more delighted that the Ulrich-Obser-Saal in the Schreiberhaus was filled with eager and highly motivated participants. The workshop attracted a diverse range of attendees: from interested individuals, including an 81-year-old senior who bravely tackled the digital topic, to teachers and volunteers who want to teach digital skills even more effectively in the future. Some had already had initial exposure to AI and used the workshop to deepen their knowledge, while others viewed the workshop as an introduction to the topic of AI.

AI Driver’s License as a Digital Learning Program

After a warm welcome by Smart City Coordinator Franziska Meier and R_Lab Mobility Project Manager Anne Hähner, the i40 team took over the training. Together with the participants, i40 conducted the AI License workshop with a mix of engaging information, helpful tips, and practical exercises.

The focus was also on using free AI tools in everyday life. For example, participants learned how easy it is to train an AI themselves to distinguish between a wallet and a smartphone. In another example, participants practiced interacting with the AI using prompts. They also received support with creative processes, composing a song using a free tool and learning how quickly AI can create a video.

It was important to highlight not only the possibilities but also the risks and limitations of AI. Participants were introduced to valuable guidelines:

  • Check sources: When you receive information from an AI—for example, through a chatbot or a search engine—always check if there are reliable sources. Don’t rely on a single answer; instead, look for confirmation in reputable media or on official websites.
  • Stay critical: Be especially cautious with surprising, emotional, or extreme statements. AI can sometimes have so-called “hallucinations” and invent things that aren’t true at all.
  • Use fact-checking: There are special websites and tools that expose fake news and deepfakes. Use these resources if you have doubts.
  • Respect privacy: Only share personal information on trustworthy sites and be mindful of what data you share with AI applications.
  • Label AI-generated content: Check whether content is labeled as AI-generated. Many platforms are working to make such content visible.
  • Seek out multiple perspectives: Read different sources and opinions before forming an opinion or sharing information.

The evening was entertaining and marked by lively discussions and exchanges on a wide range of topics related to AI. We wish all participants every success in applying what they have learned and hope that this knowledge will be shared with others.

There is a great need for further training—we are working on offering a new session soon. Further information will be announced on this website.
