The European Union is investing heavily in innovation for defense and civil security. However, not every program works the same way. In our webinar on May 5, companies and research institutions were given an overview of the funding programs under the European Defense Fund (EDF) and Horizon Europe (Cluster 3 – Civil Security Research).
Linus Piesch from the National Contact Point for the European Defense Fund (NCP EVF) kicked off the thematic presentation segment with insights into the role of the NCP EVF, application requirements and procedures, as well as dual-use potential. Opportunities for newcomers to the defense sector, particularly SMEs and startups, were also highlighted. Stella Nüschen, NCP for Security Research in Horizon Europe, then explained the EU funding opportunities in Cluster 3, “Civil Security for Society,” and discussed the various topics and funding streams. Among other things, she highlighted the special role of end-users in consortia and the interdisciplinary nature of consortia as key characteristics of security research. Both National Contact Points provided valuable input for further research and contact points. Dr. Alexander Widmann from the Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFOR) concluded the presentation round with a comprehensive overview of support services for applicants in Bavaria.
This event was organized by the Cluster Mobility & Logistics within the transform.r project in close cooperation with the Lower Saxony Defense Cluster. We will publish further webinars in the series “Funding in a Nutshell | Security Edition” on our website and in our newsletter.
