On October 1, 2025, the 5th Regensburg Transport Congress took place at TechBase in Regensburg. The event, organized by the transform.r  transformation network of the Cluster Mobility & Logistics, focused on the topic of “Digitalization and alternative drive technologies” and addressed current developments in sustainable technologies and digitally supported solutions in the transport sector.

The congress was opened by Uwe Pfeil, cluster manager at TechBase Regensburg GmbH, followed by a video message from Minister of State Christian Bernreiter and a welcome address by Regensburg's mayor Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer
A panel discussion with representatives from business and science – including Saskia Reuter (aluco GmbH), Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Rabl (OTH Regensburg) and Robert Praschl (Logistikinitiative Regensburg e.V.)  – explored the congress topics in greater depth from a practical perspective.

In the afternoon, the focus was on three specialist presentations that highlighted innovative approaches and technologies for sustainable transport logistics:

  • Christian Huber from Paul Nutzfahrzeuge GmbH compared various drive technologies in his presentation “H2 & BEV trucks – innovative solutions for the transport of the future.” He emphasized that hydrogen and battery drives should be used complementarily depending on the application. Using the PH2P® project as an example, he showed tried-and-tested vehicles for CEP services, refrigerated transport, and factory traffic that have already driven over a million kilometers. Technically, the system is based on fuel cells from Toyota and drives from Voith, among other things.
  • Georg Berberich from REICHHART Logistik GmbH highlighted the role of biomethane as an alternative fuel in the context of increasing CO₂ reduction requirements. REICHHART uses second-generation biomethane (from waste materials) in its truck fleet and demonstrated how this technology is economically and operationally competitive compared to electric and hydrogen trucks. Practical examples – such as transports for LKQ, BMW, and Airbus – illustrated the potential for CO₂-neutral transport already available today.
  • Dominik Ashkar from E-Works Mobility GmbH emphasized in his presentation the importance of vertical integration along the entire value chain in electromobility – from battery cells to software to the cloud. He argued that Europe can only remain competitive through system expertise in key components such as battery management, software integration, and telematics. The light commercial vehicles developed by E-Works are already in use throughout Europe and are characterized by high energy efficiency and modular architecture.

Parallel to the series of presentations, companies such as E-Works Mobility GmbH and REICHHART Logistik GmbH, as well as the transform.r. transformation network funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, presented themselves in an accompanying trade exhibition. The exhibition offered participants the opportunity to exchange ideas and network with solution providers in the fields of alternative drive systems, logistics IT, and vehicle technology.

The Transport Congress not only provided in-depth information on new technologies, but also practical insights into ongoing transformation processes in the mobility and logistics industry. The event clearly showed that the future of transport logistics is diverse, open to technology – and starts now.
