On November 12, 2025, the Cluster Mobility & Logistics launched its new initiative, “QuantenImpuls Regensburg,” at TechBase Regensburg. The initiative focuses on the future technology of quantum computing and brings together stakeholders from business, academia, and government. A total of 17 companies and institutions participated, many of them from the region—supplemented by participants who traveled from as far afield as Hamburg and Prien am Chiemsee.
Following opening remarks by Uwe Pfeil, Cluster Manager of the Cluster Mobility & Logistics, Steve Schumann, Project Manager and contact person for the initiative, presented the goals and planned activities of QuantenImpuls Regensburg. The focus: building knowledge, creating synergies, and developing joint project ideas to further strengthen technology transfer in the region.
In the keynote presentations, Lukas Schmidbauer (OTH Regensburg) provided a scientific overview of quantum computing, while Dr. Erik Schulze (Eviden) demonstrated what the path “from the lab to application” might look like in industry.
The interactive workshop in a World Café format formed the centerpiece of the morning: Divided into three groups, participants discussed the topics of quantum security, quantum optimization, and quantum industry readiness. The workshop was moderated by OTH Regensburg (Lukas Schmidbauer), OptWare GmbH (Dr. Vanessa Junk), and the Cluster Mobility & Logistics (Steve Schumann). This generated numerous ideas as well as a shared perspective on the opportunities, challenges, and application areas of quantum computing—with a strong focus on the economy.
The event concluded with a joint lunch featuring lively discussions and new connections. A follow-up meeting has already been scheduled.
The “QuantenImpuls Regensburg” initiative was launched by the Cluster Mobility & Logistics in collaboration with its two members, OTH Regensburg (Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Mauerer) and OptWare GmbH. The goal is to raise awareness of the future-oriented topic of quantum computing and to establish a central hub for exchange, knowledge transfer, and collaboration.
