The first part of our new Go2SVI webinar series on October 20, 2025, focused on how medium-sized companies can enter the defense market. This market is becoming increasingly important, not least due to geopolitical shifts, new security strategies, and government support programs. At the same time, it differs significantly from the civilian sector in terms of its regulations, procurement mechanisms, and security requirements.
In his presentation, Dr. Andreas de Jonge, founder and managing director of de Jonge GmbH, provided a practical overview of the key requirements and challenges that must be considered when entering the defense sector. Using concrete examples, he demonstrated how companies with technological expertise can successfully transfer their capabilities to security-related applications.
Funding programs and support structures that facilitate entry into the defense market were also discussed. In addition, the most important legal and political framework conditions were examined—from licensing issues and security requirements to dual-use regulations.
The webinar thus offered participants not only an initial orientation in the complex defense environment but also valuable insights into how existing technologies and business models can be adapted to the specific requirements of the defense sector.
Note
The event was part of the German government’s transformation networks (funding body: Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, BMWE). The Regensburg-based project transform.r supports companies in navigating structural change in the automotive industry.
