Ideation Workshop 3.0: Ideas for Urban Mobility

10/21/2025

R_Lab Mobility Real-World Laboratory

On October 20, 2025, the Ideation Workshop 3.0 “R_Lab Mobility: Real-World Laboratory for Urban Mobility” took place in Regensburg. The Cluster Mobility & Logistics organized the event in collaboration with the City of Regensburg to present and further develop current trends and the potential of urban mobility solutions as part of the “R_Lab Mobility” project.

The central objective of the workshop was to work with representatives from government, business, and academia to develop concrete project ideas that can be piloted in public spaces starting in 2026 at the R_Lab Mobility real-world laboratory. Since 2024, the real-world lab at the Galgenberg site has offered the opportunity to test innovative smart city applications under real-world conditions. It is a joint project of the City of Regensburg, the Cluster Mobility & Logistics, Stadtwerk.Regensburg, and other partners from the region.

Following opening remarks by Philipp Berr (City of Regensburg), Franziska Meier (City of Regensburg), Anne Häner (Cluster Mobility & Logistics), and Florian Heitzer (Stadtwerk.Regensburg) provided a comprehensive overview of the objectives and activities to date of the R_Lab Mobility as well as the overarching R_NEXT project in their project presentations.

In interactive workshop formats, specific challenges in the field of urban mobility were then identified, and initial solutions were gathered. The participants—comprising stakeholders from urban development, the mobility sector, and research—had already had the opportunity to submit ideas in advance. These ideas, along with those already gathered in Workshops 1.0 and 2.0, were further developed during the workshop and refined into project proposals through group work.

The Ideation Workshop 3.0 provided an important impetus for actively shaping sustainable mobility solutions in Regensburg. The submitted and developed ideas will be incorporated into the further planning and implementation of the real-world lab. The implementation of the first pilot projects is scheduled for 2026.

These new ideas, along with those already collected in Workshops 1.0 and 2.0, were further developed during the workshop and consolidated into project proposals through group work.
