Block.IS Block Innovation Spaces

Influential experts and institutions agree that blockchain technology is one of the most promising and forward-looking technologies of this century. In the fast-growing sectors of agri-food, fintech, and logistics in particular, blockchain has the potential to innovatively counteract previous challenges, such as high documentation requirements or a lack of transparency and data security.  Together with eleven European partners, the IT logistics cluster is therefore launching the 32-month Block Innovation Spaces (Block.IS) project. The aim of the project consortium is to establish a cross-sector and cross-border innovation ecosystem on the topic of blockchain. Block.IS is co-financed by the European Union's Horizon 2020 program.

Block.IS focuses on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and relevant clusters from the three sectors of agri-food, FinTech, and logistics. Through targeted activities and services, the project aims to support the development of a blockchain ecosystem for the joint cross-sector networking of SMEs and clusters. Another goal of the consortium is to increase understanding of the advantages of blockchain technologies in the respective sectors and thereby increase the development of new innovative blockchain-based solutions in the areas of agri-food, FinTech, and logistics.

Services & Activities

Throughout the project period, the consortium will carry out activities across Europe to build a blockchain community. Planned activities include Europe-wide Block.IS cluster missions, events for clusters, innovators, and SMEs in various European cities (Clusters-Innovators Assembly), as well as innovation challenges and technology and business promotion support services for SMEs and clusters.
