Practical insights into funding programs and startup processes from the academic world

On March 19, 2026, the webinar “Grant Funding Made Simple: How to Secure Funding—From Research to Startup” took place as part of the Cluster Mobility & Logistics’ webinar series of the same name. Organized by the THD Center for Entrepreneurship as part of the DInO project, the event was aimed at researchers, startups, and innovation-oriented companies interested in spin-offs.

The focus was on the startup Athegus, which presented its journey from a scientific idea to company founding. Using this practical example, key steps in the startup process were highlighted, particularly the role of suitable funding programs and the challenges involved in applying for grants. Special attention was given to the “EXIST Research Transfer” program, which has supported spin-offs since 2025.

In addition to financial aspects, organizational and strategic issues were also addressed, such as the establishment of structures and the further development of the business idea. The practical insights provided participants with a realistic picture of the requirements and success factors involved in transferring research into marketable applications.

A concluding Q&A session allowed for direct interaction with the speakers and provided a deeper understanding of the topics covered.
