On September 29, 2022, the Mobility & Logistics Cluster, together with the Regensburg Logistics Initiative and the Digitalen Gründerinitiative Oberpfalz (DGO), hosted a logistics breakfast to discuss the topic of “New Logistics.”
Why “New Logistics?”
The world of logistics is changing due to a number of trends and developments in the broader environment. These changes are driven by both growing demand and increasing technical capabilities to make supply chains more transparent. A noticeable shift in the structure of goods being transported, along with the ability to manage and plan logistics chains in a significantly more data-driven manner, are further contributing to the evolution of logistics as we know it. Not only is there strong evidence for these developments, but their effects are already visible. On the one hand, new logistics companies and startups are emerging that develop innovations and business ideas in response to current trends and new opportunities, approaching logistics from the perspective of the world of data. On the other hand, engagement with the world of data is also noticeably increasing among established logistics companies. These developments are giving rise to something that might be called “New Logistics.”
The presentations by Dr. Martin Schwemmer, Managing Director of the German Logistics Association (BVL) e.V., and Rafael Psiuk of Pickwerk GmbH sparked a discussion among the approximately 20 participants during a light breakfast.
