Successful matchmaking: hydrogen and energy technology for Algeria

06/30/2025

Visit by State Secretary Gotthardt as part of Bavaria – Fit for Partnership

On June 24, Bayern International, together with its cooperation partners energiewaechter and Cluster Mobility & Logistics, invited Algerian representatives from the energy sector to TechBase Regensburg for networking. Bavarian companies such as Ludwig Schleicher Ingenium GmbH & Co. KG and the two universities OTH Regensburg with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Belal Dawoud and TH Deggendorf with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kreutzer were represented. Prof. Kreutzer presented projects of the Wörth-Wiesent Technology Campus in the field of power electronics and the existing and future cooperation between THD and North Africa. On the Algerian side, Dr. Amina Sifi, Project Manager R&D at Sonatrach SPA, representing the Algerian Ministry of Energy, gave participants an insight into the potential and need for sustainable and innovative technologies for producing green hydrogen in Algeria.

All those present were also able to introduce themselves briefly, and some Bavarian companies took the opportunity to present their activities in the field of hydrogen and energy technology in short pitches. The presentations were rounded off by a presentation by the Hydrogen Center. Bavaria (H2.B), the Bavarian Hydrogen Alliance, and the H2 Roadmap Bavaria by Carolin Reiser, as well as a presentation of the activities of the Cluster Mobility & Logistics by Leonie Bechtold and Katja Eichinger.

After an extensive networking lunch following the presentations, the Algerian guests accompanied Bayern International to OTH Regensburg. After a warm welcome from Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Sterner, employees of the Research Center for Energy Networks and Energy Storage (FENES) presented their research in the field of hydrogen in relation to the African continent and Algeria in particular. The focus was on the H2Global meets Africa project.

The outstanding importance of hydrogen for the future of the Free State of Bavaria and Germany was underscored by State Secretary Tobias Gotthardt's visit to the afternoon event at OTH Regensburg. Referring to his previous trips to North Africa and an upcoming delegation trip to Algeria in November 2025, he emphasized Bavaria's great interest in mutually beneficial cooperation.

The Cluster Mobility & Logistics would like to thank energiewaechter and Bayern International for another excellent collaboration.
